What the kale is an eco-friendly hosting? you may ask. Well, read on fellow bloggers, read on!

I am usually not the one to post about blogging, as my focus is on wellness. I am a nutritional therapist and a lover of all things green and healthy, so why should I post about blogging or self-hosting?

Well, my reason is simple enough – I want to share what I have found and grown to love.

Over the last couple of years I have worked on simplifying life and going greener. My reasons to go green are numerous, and I talked about them in my post Why You Should Go Green + Step To A Greener Life. But cutting it short, I just don’t believe in abusing our planet as we do now and destroying our only home with our greed, consumerism and egocentrism.

I will disclaim and tell you honestly that I’m not perfect. I am not zero-waste, I am not a minimalist, I do not have a 100% eco-friendly house. I am a wife and a mother of two, and it is not completely my decision to make. As much as I want to be all those things, I have to put my family first and it means making some sacrifices. But having said that, I don’t believe that anything should be all or nothing. We can make BIG difference by doing even LITTLE things, and that is what I urge you to do.

The Little Green Things

This post contains affiliate links. For full disclosure, please read my Disclaimer page.

As I mentioned in my post about going green, we choose to use an electricity provider that uses 100% renewable energy, we choose to avoid plastic by not buying bottled water and choosing unpackaged groceries whenever possible, we switched to bamboo toothbrushes and my daughter’s stroller is a 100% green Greentom stroller that is made out of recycled plastic bottles.

Whenever I can, I choose sustainable over convenient. Why should my blog be any different? But it is – because with my hosting sustainable and convenient go hand in hand.

Eco-Friendly Web Hosting

In January of this year I decided to go self-hosted. Before that I used a personal plan with WordPress, which was ok but didn’t give the full control of my website. Going self-hosted meant that I needed to find a hosting that is fast, reliable and yet affordable.

I started searching and many of the bloggers recommended Blue Host. The price seemed appealing, but a quick research made me realize that there was a lot of hidden costs and the reviews weren’t that great. It really sounded that when you buy cheap, you get cheap – at least with that hosting.

I searched more. At that point I didn’t even think of such things as green hosting. In one of comparison reviews I stumbled upon Green Geeks and learned that it was eco-friendly. Intriguing, I thought immediately going to check it out.

And I chose Green Geeks.

It wasn’t too difficult to choose, given what they offer for the price. From $3.95 a month it provides you with:

  • WordPress optimized hosting
  • 24/7 support
  • Free site migration
  • Automatic updates and daily back ups
  • Advanced security
  • UNLIMITED web space and UNLIMITED bandwith – no worries about reaching your limit
  • Free Let’s Encrypt Wildcard SSL
  • 30 day money back guarantee
  • And the best part – 100% ECO-FRIENDLY

If that doesn’t convince you, then I don’t know what will. But my personal experience with Green Geeks has been fantastic.

Their tech support is very fast and efficient, even for those who are not technologically advanced in web hosting (like me).

The website is fast and the down-time is minimal. I have an Orbit Fox Uptime Monitor plugin and in months my website was down only once for a couple of minutes.

I joined Green Geeks when they have not supported Let’s Encrypt SSL and it was their only ‘con’ among the ‘pros’. But it is no longer an issue as Let’s Encrypt Wildcard SSL has been recently introduced, so there’s no need to spend money on SSL encryption.

The site migration is absolutely FREE, whereas with some other hosts it could cost you up to $200. Isn’t that crazy?

My Verdict

My experience with Green Geeks has been fantastic, as I said.

Could I recommend it to you? 100%.

What score would I give them out of 10? Honestly, 10/10. They are that good!

Give them a try and see yourself. If you are an eco-blogger then this hosting is a MUST for you!
